ABOUT THIS SUBCOMMITTEE
The Masters Track and Field Awards Committee presents awards to outstanding masters athletes each year. The awards consist of two (male and female) overall Masters Athletes of the Year winners, 24 age-category Athletes of the Year, and one David Pain Distinguished Service Award recipient.
Nominations are open to the public, and they are accepted in the following categories:
1) Men age 30-59
2) Women age 30-59
3) Men age 60+
4) Women age 60+
5) Distinguished Service
Nominations are usually accepted at the beginning of the year. More information about nomination deadlines, guidelines and criteria is located on the MTF Awards Web Site. The 2009 Nomination Form is
here.
Awards Committee members vote via email. The male and female nominees who receive the most votes earn the overall "Masters Athlete of the Year" award. The six nominees in each age category (see above) who receive the most votes in their respective divisions win age group awards. The individual with the most votes in the Distinguished Service category wins that award; any nominee who gets more than one vote for Distinguished Service receives an honorable mention.
The awards are given out at the annual athletes dinner at the National Masters Track and Field Championships. The awards are based on performances that occurred during the previous calendar year. The Committee makes a nominatioin each year to USATF for top Masters Athlete of the Year honors. The committee also maintains an historical archive of past award winners.
Recent and past award winners are posted on the MTF Awards Web Site.
