SINGLE AGE RECORDS
In addition to the age group records mentioned above, there are unofficial records kept for masters at each single age (starting with age 35).
INFORMATION ABOUT RULES
For an American or World Masters Record to be accepted, establishted rules must be followed and fully completed record application forms must be submitted. Useful information about rules is provided below, but complete information can be found in the
USATF Rules of Competition. It is the responsibility of any athlete submitting a record application to be familiar with the rules.
RECORD SUBMISSION FORMS
Any athlete may submit a record application subsequent to a record setting performance. Application forms are available
here. Forms do NOT need to be submitted for the following competions:
USATF National Masters Track and Field Championships
WMA World Masters Championships
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING RECORD APPLICATIONS
• Bring application forms with you to the meet. DO NOT assume that meet organizers will have them.
• Review the forms in advance and become familiar with whose signatures you will need.
• Officials who sign must be currently certified by USATF
• Be sure to get every required signature before you leave.
• If your event is hand timed, there must be three credible times (rounded up to the nearest 10th of a second) by three USATF certified officials. (Middle time will be accepted).
• If your event is automatic timed (FAT) you must include a finish photo from the timing system.
• A wind guage operator must record the wind factor.
• For field events, a copy of the field event sheet must be included
• All field implements must be certified .
• Your application must include a printed program and complete results for the event.
• Your application must include proof of age (copy of birth certificate or passport).
• The meet must be sanctioned by USATF (the meet director must have submitted a sanction form and payment to USATF before the meet) it must be sanctioned by one of the following: IAAF, WMA, NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA. DO NOT assume the meet has been sanctioned. Use the on-line
USATF calendar to verify sanction status.
• Make and keep a copy of all application materials before mailing them to the Records Chair.
• Contact the Records Chair if you have any questions and make a follow up contact to insure that your application has been received.

RECORD ACCEPTANCE PROCESS
Record applications are reviewed by the Records Chair. If all requirements are met, the performance will be listed as pending. Pending records are submitted for final approaval by the USATF Masters Track and Field Committee and the USATF Records Committee at the USATF annual meeting in December. The offical list of records will be modified following that meeting. If not all requirements are met, the record application is rejected.
MASTERS RULES
Although most rules established by USATF apply to all athletes regardless of age, the following rules are specific to Masters Track and Field (see USATF RULE 320 for more details).
• There shall be the following age divisions for both men's and women's individual competition (five-year age groups): 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, 100+
• There shall be the following age divisions for both men's and women's relay competition (ten-
year age groups): 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90+
• The age of a competitor on the first day of the meet determines the competitor's
division for individual events.
• The age on the first day of a meet of the youngest member shall determine the
age division of a relay team.
• A mixed event containing male and female participants is allowed. Masters
records may be made in mixed age and/or mixed sex competitions.
GENERAL RULES FOR RECORDS (excerpts from
USATF Rules of Competition)
No record shall be acceptable unless it is made in a bona fide scratch running competition, or a bona fide handicap or scratch competition in a field event, open to two or more clubs, schools, colleges, or other organizations, which has been fixed and advertised before the day of competition, and which is included in the printed program together with the names of the entrants for the events. A record may be accepted in a handicap race, provided the performance is set in a race in which (1) all competitors start from the same line, (2) no one has started before the competitor claiming the record, and (3) the race is timed in accordance with Rule 165.4. At least three competitors, and in relays at least two teams, shall be bona fide and have participated in the event in which the record purportedly was established. In field events, a handicap competition may be combined with the scratch competition. In Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, Long Distance Running, Race Walking and Masters Track and Field,
No record shall be acceptable unless it was made in an event that had been
sanctioned by USATF, a member organization of USATF or another member Federation of IAAF by competitors eligible to compete under IAAF Rules.
No record shall be accepted unless the, distance, or height has been checked with a certified steel tape or bar graduated in centimeters, or by an approved scientific apparatus.
FACILITY SPECIFICATIONS
Records must be set at facilities which meet the specifications described in the
USATF Rules of Competition. Note that records may be set on indoor or outdoor tracks that do not have rails, provided they have cones or markers that meet the required specifications.
